Ingredients

2 tbsp olive oil
3–4 tbsp Chimi Boss Blends Sweet Heat BBQ Rub (generous coating)
½ cup BBQ sauce
Optional: drizzle of honey for finishing
How to Make Backyard Sweet Heat Ribs
1) Prep the Ribs
Pat the ribs dry with paper towels. Flip the rack over and remove the thin membrane from the back of the ribs — simply slide a butter knife under it, grab it with a paper towel, and pull it off. Removing the membrane allows the rub to penetrate deeper and makes the ribs more tender.
2) Season the Ribs
Lightly coat both sides of the ribs with olive oil. Then generously coat the ribs with Chimi Boss Blends Sweet Heat BBQ Rub, pressing it in on all sides. Don't be shy — a thick coating builds a better crust. Let the ribs sit for at least 15–30 minutes to absorb the rub before cooking.
3) Slow Cook
Wrap the ribs tightly in aluminum foil and place on a baking sheet. Cook in the oven at 275°F / 135°C for 3 hours until the meat is tender and pulling away from the bones. Low and slow is the key — don't rush this step.
4) Grill Finish
Preheat your grill to medium-high heat. Unwrap the ribs and place them directly on the grill. Brush generously with BBQ sauce and grill for 5–7 minutes, flipping once, until the sauce caramelizes and the ribs get a beautiful char.
5) Slice & Serve
Remove ribs from the grill and let them rest for 5 minutes. Slice between the bones and serve hot. Drizzle with a little honey for extra sweetness if desired.
Pitmaster Tips
• Remove the membrane — this is the single biggest difference between tough and tender ribs.
- Season the night before for even deeper flavor — wrap and refrigerate overnight after rubbing.
- Low and slow wins — don't be tempted to crank the heat. 275°F for 3 hours beats 350°F for 2 hours every time.
- Finish with more rub — after grilling, sprinkle a little more Sweet Heat BBQ Rub on the ribs for an extra flavor kick.
- Double the glaze — mix BBQ sauce with a teaspoon of Sweet Heat BBQ Rub for a next-level basting sauce.
Serving Ideas
Classic BBQ Plate
Serve with coleslaw, cornbread, and baked beans for a full backyard BBQ spread.
Sweet Heat Rib Sandwich
Pull the meat off the bones and pile it onto a brioche bun with coleslaw and extra BBQ sauce.
Rice & Ribs Bowl
Serve sliced ribs over white rice with grilled corn and a drizzle of hot honey.
Storage & Reheating
Leftover ribs keep well in an airtight container in the fridge for up to 3 days. To reheat, wrap in foil and warm in the oven at 300°F for 15–20 minutes to keep them moist. Avoid the microwave — it dries them out. You can also reheat on the grill over low heat for 5–6 minutes per side.
